…Mark, appointed Interim Chairman

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been adopted as the platform for a newly formed opposition coalition group ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria. The coalition, which includes prominent politicians such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President David Mark, and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, aims to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and provide a credible alternative for Nigerians.
David Mark has been appointed as the interim National Chairman, while Rauf Aregbesola will serve as the interim National Secretary. The coalition’s mission is to rebuild Nigeria’s democratic institutions, promote inclusivity, transparency, and the rule of law, and address critical national issues such as insecurity, poverty, and governance failures.
The coalition has accused the APC of hijacking democratic institutions and fostering a “creeping descent into total civilian dictatorship”. However, not everyone within the ADC is pleased with the development. A faction led by Musa Matara has rejected the coalition’s adoption, describing it as an attempt to hijack the party. Dumebi Kachikwu, the ADC’s 2023 presidential candidate, has also criticized the adoption, questioning the legitimacy of the process.
As Nigeria’s democracy continues to grapple with challenges, including electoral integrity, security, and corruption, citizens remain skeptical about the ability of political parties to deliver on their promises. Each party promises heaven on earth, only to dash the hopes of citizens.
