Famous former Governor of Anambra State and Labour party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi has broken his silence on serving food to attendees at the Jubilee of Hope event in Imo State. According to Obi, the event was a private service gathering aimed at reminding leaders that true leadership is about service, not power.
Speaking in a statement, Obi explained that he attended the Jubilee of Hope, where he served food to attendees alongside other distinguished Nigerians, including Cardinal Onaiyekan, Senator Osita Izunaso, and former Chairman of Seplat Plc, Dr. A.B.C. Orjiako.
According to Obi, the event was not about him, but rather about promoting a society anchored on empathy, equity, and responsibility. He stated that he stayed longer at the event because many of the poor attendees requested that he serve them personally.
However, Obi revealed that some third parties shared photos and videos of the event without his permission, which led to naysayers and paid agents twisting the narrative and trying to make it political.
Obi emphasized that his actions at the event were not unusual, as he has always served others during his tenure as Governor and continues to do so in his private life. “I live simply, I sweep, I clean, because for me, humility is not a campaign strategy; it is a way of life,” Obi said.
According to Obi, the Jubilee of Hope aims to become a cultural phenomenon, where public office holders, business leaders, and everyday citizens unite in lifting others. He stressed that building a New Nigeria requires prioritizing the hungry, forgotten, and poor, and that dignity should not be a privilege, but a right.
