The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Federal Character Commission (FCC) are launching a joint task force to tackle job racketeering in Nigeria’s public sector. This collaboration aims to ensure fairness and integrity in recruitment processes across federal agencies.
The task force’s objectives include monitoring recruitment patterns in ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to ensure compliance with the federal character principle. It will investigate any breaches of this principle, work to prevent unfair recruitment practices like backdoor appointments, and provide advice on policy reforms to promote equity in job allocations.
According to ICPC Chairman Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, this partnership is crucial for protecting the rights and future of Nigerian youths who are often affected by illegal recruitment schemes. The FCC plays a vital role in enforcing the federal character principle, which is essential for maintaining trust in public institutions.
