Former Anambra State Governor and former Presidential Candidate of Labour party has expressed heartfelt gratitude to all his Well-Wishers on his 64th Birthday.
Obi expressed gratitude for the outpouring of goodwill and birthday wishes on his 64th birthday. In his message, he reiterated a longstanding practice of redirecting celebrations toward causes that uplift others, especially the poor, struggling health institutions, and educational establishments.
He recalled his time as Governor when he turned 50 and redirected plans for lavish celebrations toward impactful causes. An institution’s offer to build a ₦120 million house was redirected to build classrooms in three educational institutions at Agulu, Ekwulobia, and Abatete. Another group’s ₦20 million budget for a party was used to donate 200 desktop computers to schools across the state. Other donations meant for celebrations were redirected to institutions in need.
The former Governor noted the current state of Nigeria makes personal celebration difficult due to widespread suffering and deprivation. He requested that those wishing to mark his birthday instead channel resources toward helping the poor or supporting struggling health and educational institutions. He renewed his commitment to supporting institutions that serve the people.
Coincidentally, he was in Rome at the Basilica of Saint Mary of the Angels and the Martyrs on his birthday and used the opportunity to pray for Nigeria, asking that God touch the hearts of leaders to recognize public funds are for public good.
From the bottom of his heart, the former Governor thanked everyone for their goodwill and birthday wishes, remaining grateful to Nigerian youths, the Obidient family, and members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
