Former APC National Chairman John Oyegun has admitted that the 2015 coalition that formed the APC was a mistake and has thrown his weight behind the African Democratic Congress (ADC) alliance aimed at reclaiming Nigeria’s democracy ahead of the 2027 elections. The ADC coalition was unveiled at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, bringing together prominent politicians from various parties, including the Labour Party, Peoples Democratic Party, and APC.
Notable attendees at the unveiling included former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rauf Aregbesola, Aminu Tambuwal, and Abubakar Malami. The coalition has adopted the ADC as its official platform and appointed former Senate President David Mark as Chairman and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola as Secretary.
The ADC coalition aims to challenge the ruling APC in the 2027 general elections, citing growing dissatisfaction with the current administration’s handling of economic hardship, insecurity, and governance reforms. Despite internal disputes and challenges, the coalition remains determined to present a united front against the APC. Some critics, however, have dismissed the coalition’s efforts, with APC’s Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, describing the coalition leaders as “retired politicians who refuse to retire”.
