The Nigerian Senate has denied reports of a clash between its President, Godswill Akpabio, and Leader of the Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, during an executive session. According to Senator Yemi Adaramodu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Publicity, the reports are entirely false and misconstrue the Senate’s practices and traditions.
The Senate, as the country’s highest law-making institution, subjects every bill, motion, and proposal to intense scrutiny, which often entails robust debates. These debates are a normal part of the legislative process and do not suggest any crack in the rank of the leadership.
Senator Adaramodu emphasized that the Senate’s practices are similar to those of other parliaments worldwide, where members engage in parliamentary debates and discussions to scrutinize initiatives in the interest of Nigerians. He assured that the Senate leadership remains united and committed to its responsibilities.
