The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has announced plans to strengthen collaboration with the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) to combat systemic corruption, particularly in recruitment processes. ICPC Chairman Dr. Musa Aliyu emphasized the importance of inter-agency collaboration during a meeting with CDCFIB Executive Secretary, retired Maj.-Gen. Abdulmalik Jibril.
The ICPC boss outlined a three-pronged approach to fighting corruption, including prevention through institutional reforms, strict enforcement of anti-graft laws, and nationwide campaigns to raise public awareness. He proposed a formal partnership via a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CDCFIB to streamline intelligence-sharing, joint training programs, and anti-corruption initiatives.
Dr. Aliyu stressed the need for merit-based recruitment processes to foster trust and equity nationwide. He expressed concerns about job racketeering, warning that unchecked practices undermine national development and discourage foreign direct investment. He urged CDCFIB to enforce transparency and prioritize merit in recruitment processes, ensuring equal opportunities for all applicants.
The proposed partnership aims to prevent corruption, build capacity, and promote transparency in public sector recruitment processes. By working together, ICPC and CDCFIB can create a more robust framework for fighting corruption and promoting fairness in government agencies.
