The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) to promote integrity and professional ethical standards in the engineering profession regulatory system.
The MoU, signed by ICPC Chairman Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu and COREN President/Chairman Engr. Professor Sadiq Zubair Abubakar, aims to build synergy and leverage the strengths of both agencies to fight corruption.
Dr. Aliyu stated that the partnership would strengthen mutual relationships and collaboration between the two agencies, highlighting the importance of COREN’s expertise in ensuring accountability and transparency in government projects.
The ICPC Chairman also emphasized the need to prevent issues like building collapses and ensure that projects are executed according to standards and design. He urged COREN to draw attention to areas of concern in the field and promised that ICPC would refer professional engineers engaged in sharp practices to COREN for misconduct.
Engr. Professor Abubakar expressed COREN’s readiness to work with ICPC to ensure sanctions for defaulters of engineering regulations are carried out, strengthening the existing relationship between the two agencies.
The MoU signing ceremony was held at the ICPC headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, August 14, 2025.
