Still basking in the euphoria of Annual World Humanitarian Day celebrated yesterday, 19th August, 2025, today, August 20th, 2025, Prince Arthur Ikpechukwu Eze, OFR, popularly called Ozoigbondu and or Ebube Ukpo will be honored with the 2025 Humanitarian Service Diamond (HSD) Awards in the category of Immortal Humanitarian Laureate for his numerous laudable humanitarian acts- because no doubt, his legacy of charity will remain evergreen. Fondly called Prince Arthur, the renowned Chairman of Atlas Oranto Petroleum International Limited and a quintessential philanthropist, has long before now exhibited an innate act of charity that dates back to his childhood.
Born on November 27, 1948, in Ukpo, Anambra State, South Eastern part of Nigeria. Prince Eze has become a household name in Nigeria and beyond, celebrated for his outstanding generosity and commitment to uplifting the lives of others in diverse ways.
Reliable accounts have it that Prince Eze, who was born into a ruling and wealthy home, often supported some of his fellow pupils and students while in school with his pocket money or school fees, only to request for more from his wealthy father. This trait has remained with him throughout his life, as he continues to put smiles on the faces of the less privileged and beyond, without discrimination. His philanthropic efforts extend to various governments, institutions, individuals, politicians, businessmen, widows, orphans, people living with disabilities, churches, and mosques, both nationally and internationally.
When it comes to food, Prince Eze is known for his generosity, often inviting others to join him with the phrase ” Enyi/di anyi bia ka anyi rie nri” (friend come, let us eat). This reflects his warm and generous nature, always eager to share with others.
“Charity is a fundamental aspect of human existence, and it is our duty to give back to society in any way we can,” Prince Eze has said this on several occasions, highlighting his commitment to philanthropy.
Famous Mother Teresa of blessed memory once said, “We shall require a new manner of living if we are to live in peace with one another. The kind of peace I long for, and which all humanity longs for, will not be attained unless we learn to be generous one towards another.” This quote aligns deeply with Prince Eze’s diverse humanitarian acts, which has made a lasting impact on the lives of many people.
Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor, a lawyer and human rights activist, aptly puts it, “Your legacy of generosity continues to shape the development of our region. It is my sincere hope that history will remember you kindly, and that Ala Igbo (Igbo land) will be blessed with more leaders of your caliber.” This quote captures the essence of Prince Eze’s lasting humanitarian work over the years, which has made a lasting impact on the lives of many.
Prince Eze’s philanthropic efforts are diverse and far-reaching, touching various sectors such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, and community development. He has donated millions of dollars to support flood relief efforts in Nigeria, provided financial assistance to victims of Boko Haram insurgencies, and built a medical research unit at Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra State and indeed other institutions. His contributions have also extended to supporting church construction projects and providing aid to vulnerable populations, including the elderly and those living with sickle cell disorder.
One notable aspect of Prince Eze’s philanthropy is his commitment to education. He has awarded thousands of scholarships to indigent and high-performing students across Nigeria, particularly from Anambra and other parts of the country. His efforts have also focused on promoting peace and development in his community, as evidenced by his role in the creation of Dunukofia Local Government and his lobbying for the Police Zone 13 Headquarters to be sited in Ukpo. Prince Eze has been a strong pillar of support for rich ofala cultural festival of Ukpo Ancient Kingdom that has attracted high and mighty with fond memories and recognitions.
As a business leader, he founded Atlas Oranto Petroleum International Limited, one of Africa’s largest oil exploration and production companies. He has received numerous awards and recognitions for his contributions to Nigeria’s economic development and humanitarian efforts, including the national honor of Officer of the Federal Republic (OFR).
With a net worth estimated at over $5.8 billion and still counting, Prince Eze has consistently demonstrated his commitment to giving back to society through various initiatives, including education, healthcare, and community development.
Prince Eze’s humility and gratitude are truly admirable. Despite his immense success, he remains mindful of his journey and the individuals who have supported him along the way. He is known to acknowledge and appreciate those who have helped him at any slightest opportunity, including late Solomon Lar, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, and late General Sani Abacha amongst others.

As a disciplinarian par excellence, Prince Eze is a great, loving and caring family man who has raised his children with utmost responsibility and fear of God, instilling in them the values of simplicity, decorum, and humility. His children are known for their down-to-earth nature, avoiding the flaunting of wealth and moving quietly, leaving a simple impression.
The road ahead is laced with many more charitable acts, as his ilk cannot stop doing charity, and Prince Eze’s legacy will continue to inspire others to follow in his footsteps.
Among notable honorees for today’s much awaited 2025 HSD Awards are: His Excellency Governor Umo Bassey Eno, to be awarded Humanitarian Governor of the Year; Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, Comptroller General of Customs, to be honored as Lifetime Humanitarian Hero on Institutional Reform; Alhaji Dahiru Bara’u Mangal, to be recognized as Lifetime Humanitarian Achiever for Transformational Philanthropy; Pastor Solomon Abumere Folorunsho, to be honored with the Living Legacy Humanitarian Award; and Chief Ayuba Burki Gufiran, to be celebrated as Champion of Inclusive Humanity Award amongst others. According to the Founder of HSD Award, Ikechukwu Norbert, “these honorees represent the diverse faces of humanitarianism— from philanthropy and public service to faith-based initiatives and grassroots inclusion”.
