“Sen Ekwunife’s Statue Unveiled in Igbo-Ukwu”

The National New Yam Festival 2025, was took place in Igbo-Ukwu, Anambra State on Saturday 30th August, 2025. It was indeed a grand celebration of the people’s rich cultural heritage. The festival’s highlight was the unveiling of a majestic statue of Distinguished Senator Uche Lilian Ekwunife, popularly known as Iyom. This remarkable event showcased the senator’s dedication to the development and preservation of Igbo culture.

Senator Uche Lilian Ekwunife is a trailblazing politician and philanthropist who has made impactful contributions to Nigerian society. With over 25 years of sound leadership experience, she has been recognized for her commitment to empowering women and youths. Her role as Director General of the South East Governors Forum has further solidified her position as a champion of regional development and cooperation. Her appointment to the Women in Mining Africa Board is a demonstration of her expertise and passion for promoting women’s rights and development in the mining sector.

Currently, Senator Ekwunife is running as the deputy gubernatorial candidate alongside Dr. Nicholas Ukachukwu in the forthcoming Anambra State gubernatorial election in November.
