Rotary Club of Nigeria, Anambra State Branch, has urged political parties participating in the November 8 Governorship Election in Anambra State to campaign with peace.
The club disclosed this during a press conference in Awka, as part of activities marking the World Peace Day, with the theme, “Act Now for a Peaceful World”.
Past Assistant Governor (PAG) and State Cordinator, Rotary Action Group for Peace ( RATGP), Rtn. Chidi Obiudu, said that Ndị Anambra were marking the World Peace Day for the state to wear the cloth of peace and cultivate the habit of peace.
He advised Ndị Anambra to embrace peace and aviod anything evil that will bring bad name to the state, especially at this election period, and not to take laws into their hands.
” Speak and show peace; be law abiding, both indigenes and non-indigenes. Allow INEC to call and announce results. Anambra State has been the first in anything,” he said.
He reminded Ndị Anambra that any wrong action taken is capable of causing chaos in the state and encouraged them to carry the message of peace to every nook and cranny of the state.
He made mention of positive peace, that will bring peace, remove conflict for a better state and Nigeria at large.
He condemned any act of violence that will ignite civil unrest in the state and advised political parties and their candidates to sheath their swords and embrace peace irrespective of any party they belong, adding that Anambra State is one body.
President, Rotary Club of Awka Metropolis, Rtn. Pharm. Michael Bishop,
said that the event started with road walk to enable peace exist in the state, and advised individuals, communities to embrace peace, noting that peace comes with development.
District Chairman, RAFGP, Rtn. Dennis Ekemezie, President, Rotary Club of Nnamdi Azikiwe University ( UNZIK), Rotractor Chukwu Melchizedek, President, RC, Obowo, Imo State, Rtn. Ngozi Onuoha, President, RC, Awka GRA, Rtn. Chioma Ikebundu hinted the danger of negative peace, saying it is a time bomb waiting to explode when it is allowed, advising people to follow positive way of peace for a better Anambra and Nigeria.
” Youths, you are the strength and muscle of the state. Embark on peace, coordinate yourselves properly, especially at this forthcoming election.” she concluded.
