I, Hon. Dr. Obinna Kelechi Oliaku (Enyioha na Finland), heartily felicitate with Senator Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja on the auspicious occasion of his coronation as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadaland, on this 26th day of September, 2025.
Born in September 1944, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja is a distinguished businessman and oil and gas executive, who later served as a Senator in the aborted Third Republic in Nigeria. I first met Senator Ladoja in 2003 at Eagle Square, Abuja, during the PDP National Presidential Convention, where, as a delegate and observer, I found in him a like-minded compatriot. Our bond of friendship was strengthened by our mutual support for the candidacy of the late Dr. Alex Ekwueme, whom we both considered the most suitable to lead our nation at the time.
Humble and unassuming, Oba Ladoja went on to contest and win the Governorship of Oyo State in 2003 under the platform of the PDP. Despite his controversial impeachment in 2006, arising from his uncompromising stance in the management of the state’s commonwealth, he demonstrated resilience, integrity, and an unyielding spirit. His eventual reinstatement by the Supreme Court in the same year remains a testament to his indefatigable courage and commitment to justice.
A principled leader and lover of due process, Oba Ladoja has always remained unwavering in his values, even when it meant parting ways with powerful political forces such as the late Chief Lamidi Adedibu. As Governor of Oyo State, he prioritized education, agriculture, affordable housing, and water projects, leaving indelible legacies that continue to shape lives to this day.
Today, as he ascends the exalted throne of his forefathers as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadaland, we celebrate a man of the people, admired for his humility, despite his wealth and accomplishments.
