Abuja came alive on Saturday, September 27, 2025, with splendour, grace, and history as Dr. Chikamkpa Amaechi, first son of former Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, exchanged vows with his beloved, Anita Nwabueze, daughter of High Chief Martin Nwabueze (Akubudike) of Umudioka, Anambra State, in a dazzling white wedding that drew together the crème of Nigeria’s political, religious, and social circles.
The solemn rites at St. Gabriel Catholic Chaplaincy, Abuja, earlier in the day sealed the couple’s journey into matrimony.
The main officiating minister, Very Rev. Fr. Stephen Ziga Dedua, a former chaplain to Rt. Hon. Amaechi, led the Mass. In his homily, he admonished the couple: “Build your home on patience and divine love. The love you must show one another must be sacrificial. You come before God today declaring that divorce is not part of your vocabulary.” He further warned against the rising tide of failed marriages, urging them to remain steadfast in unity and faith.
In his heartfelt remarks, Rotimi Amaechi, brimming with pride and fatherly affection, prayed: “My prayer to them is that they will be happy. They will find happiness, and they will find God’s love. And they will have many children.” His wife, Judith Amaechi, added with tender simplicity: “The most important thing is their happiness. Their happiness is the most important thing. So I wish them well.”
The grand reception at Los Angeles Event Centre, Kado, transformed into a carnival of joy, music, and laughter. The hall glittered under crystal chandeliers, lush blossoms, and soft lighting, while tables overflowed with delicacies and fine wines that kept guests merry deep into the evening.
At the reception, Abia State Governor Alex Otti offered counsel: “Learn to speak through crisis rather than shut each other out.” His words, urging patience and dialogue, drew approving nods across the distinguished audience.
The guest list was a parade of Nigeria’s finest. In attendance were former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan, Dolapo Osinbajo (wife of former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo), former Senate President David Mark and his wife, Helen, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong, former Rivers State Governor Celestine Omehia, PDP former National Chairman Uche Secondus, former SGF Chief Babachir Lawal, Vanguard Publisher Sam Amuka Pemu, Senator Lee Maeba, Chief Mrs. Amma Pepple, Mrs. Eileen Uwajumogu and her son, Barr. Benjamin (Jnr.) Uwajumogu, and former NIMASA DG Dakuku Peterside.
Also present were Anambra governorship candidate Chief George Moghalu, traditional ruler of Alor, HRH Mac-Anthony Okonkwo (Elibe), Senator Tony Nwoye, Hon. Dozie Nwankwo, Lady Tonia Oluoma, Chief Coleman Uba, Amb. Frank Chinedu (PRO, Anambra Public Officers and Elders Forum, Abuja), Executive Director of Hope Ambassadors for Peace in Africa Initiative, seasoned Media Consultant Chief Obi Okoye, and David Dosunmu, Publisher of Celebrity Christian Magazine, among many others. While some dignitaries graced only the church service, others stayed through to the reception, where the festivities reached their peak.
The celebration brimmed with highlights — from the graceful father-and-daughter dance that drew rapturous applause, to the jubilant parents’ dance that radiated the families’ joy. Guests laughed at the lively banter of MC Chuks De General, couples swayed to music in unison, and official group photographs captured timeless memories of the couple flanked by parents, friends, and dignitaries.
The bride, Anita, radiated elegance in flowing ivory, her gentle poise perfectly complementing the groom’s dignified composure. Their marriage was more than a union of two young hearts; it was also the convergence of legacies: the Amaechi family, and the Nwabueze’s, whose 34 years of marital bliss, like the Amaechis’ 32 years, were celebrated as shining examples.
As music swelled and glasses clinked, the evening sparkled with toasts, laughter, and the exuberance of new beginnings. Guests feasted, danced, and departed with bespoke souvenirs, the perfect close to a day steeped in elegance, family, and faith.
In the end, it was more than just a wedding. It was love witnessed by a nation — a reminder of hope in family life and a promise that from Rivers to Anambra, two great names, Chikamkpa and Anita, have now been joined in the ledger of destiny.
