The Benjamin Kalu Foundation, in partnership with the Taiwanese Peace Corps, has launched a large-scale medical outreach that is set to provide free healthcare services to more than 10,000 Nigerians across Abia State and beyond.
The initiative, flagged off in Bende Local Government Area, is aimed at addressing the pressing healthcare needs of underserved communities. It covers a wide range of treatments, including consultations, surgeries, and specialized care, particularly in areas such as eye health, maternal health, and general medical conditions.
Speaking at the launch, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, who is also the founder of the Benjamin Kalu Foundation, described the program as a demonstration of his commitment to prioritizing people’s welfare. He emphasized that healthcare is a fundamental right and pledged to sustain the intervention as part of his broader constituency empowerment agenda.
Kalu further revealed that the partnership would extend beyond immediate medical services, with provisions for capacity-building through the training of Nigerian doctors in Taiwan. According to him, the collaboration seeks not only to treat patients but also to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare system in the long term.
Representatives of the Taiwanese Peace Corps expressed delight at the cooperation, noting that their mission is to promote global solidarity through humanitarian service. They reaffirmed their readiness to deepen ties with Nigeria, especially in the areas of healthcare and community development.
Beneficiaries of the outreach, many of whom had struggled with long-standing medical challenges, praised the Foundation for bringing relief to their doorsteps. Community leaders in Bende also lauded the initiative, describing it as one of the most impactful programs in recent years.
The outreach marks another milestone in the Benjamin Kalu Foundation’s consistent efforts to uplift vulnerable groups through education, healthcare, and economic empowerment programs.
