Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to take over the leadership of Abia State in 2027 through the will of the people.
Kalu made the statement on Sunday in Umuahia while addressing a large crowd of APC supporters and members of the Renewed Hope Partners (RHP) from across the 17 local government areas of Abia State. He emphasized that the party’s victory would come through the ballot box and not by the use of federal might.
He urged all eligible voters in Abia to take advantage of the ongoing continuous voter registration exercise to obtain their voter cards ahead of the next general elections.
According to him, “We have come to take over and there is no going back. We are going to use the votes of the masses to take over this state. APC will take over Abia so that what is released from Abuja will get to your ward.”
Kalu commended Abians for their support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, assuring that the state would benefit more when aligned with the federal government.
He also called on Governor Alex Otti to demonstrate greater transparency and invest more in infrastructure development, noting that the state’s revenue allocation has significantly increased following the removal of fuel subsidy.
“The job done so far by the state government is not enough. You cannot be getting the kind of money you’re getting and still doing what former governors who received less were doing,” he stated.
The Deputy Speaker praised President Tinubu for releasing funds to the states rather than keeping them in Abuja, describing him as the “miracle maker” who supports state governments to perform effectively.
Kalu further advised students and traders among the APC supporters to apply for the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) facilities to fund their education and businesses.
“As a student, if you have not applied for NELFUND loan, go and apply. Also, go and form Renewed Partners Cooperative Societies in your local government areas so that we can support you to revive your small businesses,” he added.
