The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Aminu Yusuf as Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC) alongside two Commissioners, Kigbun Haruna and Tonga Bularafa.
The confirmation followed the consideration of a report by the Senate Committee on National Identity and National Population, which found all three nominees qualified for the roles. The committee further noted that no petitions or adverse security reports were recorded against them by either the Nigeria Police Force or the Department of State Services.
According to reports monitored from Peoples Gazette, Yusuf represents Niger State, while Haruna and Bularafa represent Nasarawa and Yobe States respectively.
With their confirmation, attention now shifts to how the new leadership will reposition the NPC to deliver accurate population data critical to national planning and development.
The National Population Commission is Nigeria’s statutory agency responsible for population management, vital registration, and demographic data collation to guide government policy.
