Deputy Inspector-General of Police Benjamin Okolo on Friday urged political actors, candidates and residents of Anambra State to maintain peace and order during the governorship election held on Saturday.
Speaking at a security briefing in Awka ahead of the poll, DIG Okolo, who coordinated police operations for the exercise, appealed to all parties to demonstrate restraint and uphold democratic values throughout the voting process. According to a statement signed by police authorities, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had directed full deployment of personnel, logistics and intelligence resources across the state to ensure a peaceful, fair and credible election.
DIG Okolo reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring that officers deployed were properly briefed to act with professionalism, neutrality and respect for human rights. He commended the cooperation of other security agencies and urged voters to remain law-abiding and confident in the security arrangements provided.
Benjamin Okolo, a very senior police officer, was designated to oversee security operations for the Anambra governorship election on behalf of the Nigeria Police Force.
