The Anambra State Town Unions Council recently honored a select group of individuals whose dedication, integrity, and service have made a lasting impact on their communities. The ceremony recognized leaders who exemplify the virtues of wisdom, diligence, and moral excellence, providing inspiring examples for the youth of Anambra.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo, represented by the state Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, praised the initiative, emphasizing the role of young leaders in shaping the present and future. He highlighted that 60,000 Anambra youths have been trained in digital skills and are now employed within the state, across Nigeria, and abroad. Soludo’s administration, he said, is committed to inclusivity, free education, health facilities, and youth empowerment through initiatives such as the Solution Innovation District.
Mefor added that the Ministry of Information will partner with ASTUC to take the program closer to communities by rotating it across senatorial zones, ensuring broader engagement and lasting impact.
Ken Okoli, President-General of ASTUC, explained that the initiative began in 2024, with each of Anambra’s 179 communities nominating one role model. From November 2024 to January 2025, 21 Star Role Models were selected, representing the state’s 21 local government areas. Three Mega Star Role Models, chosen by youth leaders from each senatorial zone, will serve as the leading figures into 2026.
The Mega Star Role Models honored were High Chief Dr Chinedu Umeadi from Anambra Central, Very Rev. Dr Basil Ekwunife from Anambra North, and HRH Chief Dr Chukwuma Josephat Onukwo from Anambra South. High Chief Umeadi, represented by his foundation’s Vice President, Mr Uchenna Justine Umeadi, encouraged youths to pursue peaceful progress and lead by example, noting that individual and collective effort can reshape society.
Very Rev. Dr Ekwunife urged citizens to value every opportunity, stressing that empowering the youth equates to empowering the nation. HRH Chief Onukwo highlighted the importance of hard work, warning against the dangers of quick-money schemes, which he described as destructive to Nigeria’s younger generation.
The recognition of these role models underscores Anambra State’s commitment to cultivating leadership, promoting moral values, and inspiring the next generation to build a prosperous, responsible, and forward-looking society.
