The Nigeria Customs Service Board has approved a new round of management appointments and special promotions at its 64th Regular Meeting held on Tuesday, 25 November 2025, with key decisions taken to reinforce leadership, improve operational capacity and strengthen personnel development across the Service.
The meeting, chaired by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun, confirmed five Deputy Comptroller-Generals of Customs and eight Assistant Comptroller-Generals in accordance with statutory provisions and the Federal Character Policy outlined in Section 14(4) of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023.
The newly appointed Deputy Comptroller-Generals are Baba Imam from the North-East, Isah Umar from the North-West, Tijjani Abe from the North-West, Timi Bomodi from the South-South and Oluyomi Adebakin from the South-West. Their elevation follows the recent retirement of senior officers and is expected to reinforce strategic management across key zones and departments.
The Board also approved the appointment of C.G. Ogbonna from the South-East, I. Abba-Aji from the North-East, G.M. Haruna from the South-South, E.J. Edelduok from the South-South, G. Gaura from the North-West, I. Isyaku from the North-West, M.S. Shuaibu from the North-Central and M.D. Malah from the North-East as Assistant Comptroller-Generals. According to officials at the meeting, these appointments reflect the Board’s continued commitment to effective policy execution, compliance oversight and operational efficiency.
Ten officers received Special Promotion for what the Board described as exceptional professionalism, leadership and outstanding performance in their respective formations. Those promoted are A.C. Fanyam to Comptroller of Customs, G.M. Shidali to Comptroller of Customs, S. Omofoma to Deputy Comptroller of Customs, O.A. Oladepo to Deputy Comptroller of Customs, A.Y. Musa to Deputy Comptroller of Customs, A. Ogboru to Deputy Comptroller of Customs, A.A. Maiwada to Deputy Comptroller of Customs, C.N. Essien to Assistant Comptroller of Customs, H. Aliyu to Assistant Comptroller of Customs and A.S. Shofadekan to Deputy Superintendent of Customs.
The Board stated that the Special Promotion category is reserved for officers whose work has significantly boosted operational output, improved service delivery and contributed to national revenue mobilisation and security enhancement.
Officials noted that the latest round of appointments and promotions underscores continuing efforts to strengthen leadership succession, boost morale and ensure the Service remains responsive to evolving trade, security and administrative demands.
