Obi Urges Europe to Support Africa’s Development

By George Ozalla

Peter Obi has called for stronger cooperation between Europe and Africa, particularly Nigeria, to promote sustainable development and stability across the continent. Obi made the appeal during a series of meetings at the European Parliament yesterday with members of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs, the Africa-EU Delegation Committee, and the Committees on Transport, Tourism, and Development.

Obi highlighted Africa’s vast potential, noting that the continent, richly endowed with natural resources and a large youthful population, continues to face widespread poverty due to poor leadership and entrenched corruption. He urged European lawmakers to support good governance, democratic processes, and the emergence of competent leaders capable of transforming Nigeria and other African nations.

Obi further emphasized the need for Europe’s support in addressing insecurity, improving power supply, strengthening education and healthcare, and creating opportunities for Nigerian youths eager for entrepreneurship and productivity. He stressed that Africa’s success directly benefits Europe and called for sustained investment in young people as a pathway to a prosperous Nigeria.

He said a new Nigeria is achievable through good governance, international support, and strategic investments.
