The Police Service Commission has announced the commencement of a coordinated recruitment process for 30,000 new police personnel in line with the recent presidential directive aimed at strengthening national security and improving the police-to-citizen ratio across the country.
According to a press statement signed by Torty Njoku Kalu for the Chairman, Nigeria Police Force Matters Committee, PSC, the Commission and the Nigeria Police Force have set up a joint high-powered ad-hoc committee to oversee the exercise and ensure that it begins without delay. The committee was inaugurated on 26 November 2025 by the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd), at the Commission’s headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.
The Chairman, who was represented at the event by DIG (Bar) Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), said the collaboration between the PSC and the Police is essential to driving a transparent and efficient recruitment process. He reaffirmed the Commission’s resolve to adhere strictly to established guidelines in selecting qualified applicants, stressing that fairness and merit would guide every stage of the exercise. DIG Lakanu currently heads the Nigeria Police Force Matters Committee of the Commission.
The Inspector-General of Police was represented by CP Edwin Eloho of the Department of Training and Development, Force Headquarters. He underscored the significance of the recruitment in boosting the operational capacity of the Force and assured the PSC of the NPF’s full cooperation to ensure that the national target is achieved in good time.
The inauguration of the joint committee marks a firm move by the Federal Government to expand police manpower and respond more effectively to security challenges nationwide.
