CBAAC Mourns Former OAU Pro-Chancellor Prof. Oyeweso

The Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilisation has announced the passing of Prof. Abdulgafar Siyan Oyeweso, former Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of Obafemi Awolowo University. According to a statement signed by the Director-General of the Centre, Hon Aisha Adamu Augie, the Management and Staff described his death as a major loss to the academic and cultural community.

Prof. Oyeweso was celebrated as a distinguished African historian whose body of work enriched scholarship across the continent. He was also noted as a proud alumnus of the Centre and a mentor who guided many young scholars, leaving an imprint that shaped generations within the humanities.

CBAAC extended condolences to his family, colleagues, and the broader academic community, praying for the repose of his soul and expressing confidence that his legacy will continue to illuminate future scholarship.

Prof. Abdulgafar Siyan Oyeweso built a respected career in academia, holding several influential positions over the years. His tenure as Pro-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University underscored his standing as a leader committed to the advancement of education, culture, and African studies.
