Senator Tony Nwoye on Wednesday joined former schoolmates at Metropolitan College, Onitsha, as legacy projects executed by the Metropolitan College Old Students Association were formally commissioned during the association’s reunion anniversary.
The projects, completed as part of activities marking the reunion, include the renovation of selected school buildings, the refurbishment of the college entrance gates, the construction of a new security post, as well as the redevelopment and repainting of the perimeter walls of the institution.
Commending the leadership of the Old Students Association for what he described as a commendable intervention, Senator Nwoye urged alumni to remain committed to the continuous development of their alma mater. He noted that the responsibility of sustaining quality education cannot be borne by government alone, stressing the need for deliberate collaboration involving individuals, corporate organisations and non-governmental bodies.
The senator, who represents Anambra North Senatorial District, also outlined several education-related interventions he has facilitated in his capacity as a lawmaker, while pledging to execute additional projects in Metropolitan College. He said concerted efforts must be made to restore the institution to its former standing and ensure a more conducive learning environment for students.
He further encouraged his fellow alumni to continue supporting one another, remain united, and give back to the school that shaped their formative years, while sustaining the core values imbibed during their time as students.
In his remarks, the chairman of the Old Students Association described the college as more than a place of learning, but a shared community that fostered lasting friendships and character development. He said the reunion anniversary served as a reminder of the enduring network built over time, noting that their shared history has created a strong bond and collective strength among members.
Metropolitan College, Onitsha, is one of the long-established secondary schools in Anambra State, with a history of producing notable professionals across various fields, supported in recent years by alumni-led initiatives aimed at infrastructure renewal and institutional revival.
