The Office of the President of the Senate has dismissed claims circulating on social media regarding an alleged appointment within a political support group known as Team Akpabio for Tinubu, distancing Senate President Godswill Obot Akpabio from the narrative.
According to a press statement signed by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President of the Senate, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, the Senate President has no affiliation with, nor operational knowledge of, the internal affairs, appointments, or activities of any political support group, including Team Akpabio for Tinubu. The statement explained that such groups are voluntary associations formed independently by their members and do not require the approval, endorsement, or authorization of Senator Akpabio.
The statement further clarified that Senator Akpabio does not know Hon. Aondoaver Nyakuma and has never appointed him, or any other individual, to any position within any political support group.
Addressing insinuations of political tension, the Office stated that the Senate President maintains a cordial and respectful institutional relationship with the Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, and harbours no personal or political dispute with him.
It also emphasized that Senator Akpabio does not represent Benue State in the National Assembly and therefore has no obligation to intervene in intra-state political matters, noting that his responsibilities as President of the Senate are national, constitutional, and institutional in nature.
The Office of the President of the Senate urged the public and the media to disregard any statements or narratives attempting to link Senator Akpabio to claims, appointments, or grievances arising from private political groups.
