Venora Holdings Limited has entered into a partnership with the Nigeria Union of Journalists FCT Correspondents’ Chapel, with a commitment to support media capacity building and improve journalists’ welfare.
The Managing Director of Venora Holdings, Mr Ayodeji Torey, gave the assurance when he received members of the NUJ FCT Correspondents’ Chapel on a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja. He said the company was open to sustained collaboration that would enhance the professional and working conditions of journalists.
Mr Torey noted that a strong and independent media remains central to national development and pledged that Venora Holdings would continue to support initiatives that promote professionalism and improved welfare within the journalism profession.
Speaking during the visit, Chairman of the NUJ FCT Correspondents’ Chapel, Comrade Felix Ojo, commended Mr Torey for his leadership style and commitment to staff welfare, describing his approach to human development as exemplary.
Ojo explained that the NUJ FCT Correspondents’ Chapel is one of the recognised chapels under the NUJ FCT Chapter, adding that its members are bona fide journalists covering news across diverse beats within and outside the Federal Capital Territory.
He noted that journalists often work under limited funding conditions, making welfare support critical to productivity and professional standards. He recalled that the chapel had recently organised a programme focused on collective bargaining and unionism as part of efforts to improve the occupational welfare of its members.
Ojo also highlighted the need for improved logistics within the NUJ FCT Correspondents’ Chapel, including the acquisition of a bus to support members during official assignments and engagements.
As part of the visit, the NUJ FCT Correspondents’ Chapel presented an Award of Excellence in Workplace Practice to Mr Torey, citing Venora Holdings’ work environment, staff remuneration structure, health insurance coverage and empowerment initiatives.
Receiving the award, Mr Torey expressed appreciation to the Nigeria Union of Journalists and dedicated the recognition to his team, whom he described as the backbone of the company’s achievements. He said the honour would further encourage Venora Holdings to deepen its support for journalists and contribute to stronger media practice.
