The National Assembly Service Commission has confirmed Emmanuel Odo as Clerk to the Senate and appointed Ibrahim Sidi as Acting Clerk of the House of Representatives, as part of a series of administrative decisions affecting senior personnel of the National Assembly.
The decisions were taken at the 19th meeting of the Commission held on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. The outcomes were later conveyed in Abuja through a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs of the Commission, Emmanuel Anyigor, on behalf of the Executive Chairman, Dr Saviour Enyiekere.
Odo’s confirmation follows his earlier elevation to the position of Acting Clerk to the Senate, a role he assumed after the Commission’s approval on September 16, 2025. His confirmation now makes the appointment substantive, consolidating his leadership position within the Senate bureaucracy.
In the House of Representatives, the Commission appointed Ibrahim Sidi as Acting Clerk with effect from February 9, 2026. Sidi, who currently serves as Director of Administration in the National Assembly, will take over from Dr Yahaya Danzariya, who is due to retire from the National Assembly Service on February 8, 2026.
Beyond the two top appointments, the Commission also approved a number of redeployments and acting appointments across key directorates of the National Assembly. Fortune Ihua-Maduenyi was appointed Acting Secretary of the Directorate of Protocol and Inter-Parliamentary Relations, while Asien Fatima Nana was named Acting Secretary of the Zonal Liaison Offices.
Other approvals include the appointment of Engr Bashir Layya as Acting Secretary of the Directorate of Estate and Works with effect from February 3, 2026, as well as the appointment of Siyaka Wahab Sadiq as Acting Deputy Clerk, Legislative, House of Representatives, and Dauda Bulama Bukar as Acting Deputy Clerk, Administration, House of Representatives.
The National Assembly Service Commission is constitutionally responsible for the appointment, promotion and discipline of staff of the National Assembly and its bureaucracy, playing a central role in ensuring continuity and administrative stability within Nigeria’s federal legislature.
