The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of one Deputy Inspector-General, two Assistant Inspector-Generals, and more than twenty-six thousand Inspectors following its 3rd Plenary Meeting held on Thursday, 29 January 2026.
Assistant Inspector-General of Police Funsho Adegboye, mni, has been elevated to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG). Commissioners of Police Danjuma Aboki and Dansabo Idi were promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) after a rigorous merit-based process, which included written examinations and oral interviews conducted by the Commission.
In a landmark move reflecting its commitment to career progression, the Commission also promoted 26,119 Inspectors to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police II (ASP II) based on their performance in the recently concluded Departmental Selection Board Examination.
DIG Funsho Adegboye, who served as AIG in charge of the Police Mobile Force at Force Headquarters, Abuja, has a career spanning several decades. He has held critical positions including Divisional Police Officer, Area Commander in Ijero and Ile-Ife, Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations in Ondo State, and Commissioner of Police in the Homicide Department (FCID), Force Intelligence Department, and Edo State Command. His international experience includes service with United Nations Missions in Kosovo, Liberia, Timor, and Somalia.
AIG Danjuma Aboki was previously the Commissioner of Police in Imo State, while AIG Dansabo Idi served as Acting AIG in charge of Research and Planning at Force Headquarters, Abuja. AIG Idi has held various key positions including Divisional Police Officer across Kebbi and Kaduna states, Officer-in-Charge of the Criminal Investigation Branch in Kebbi, Area Commander in multiple divisions, Commander of 63 PMF Ikorodu, Lagos, Deputy Commissioner of Operations for Zone 1 Lagos, Commandant of the Police College Kaduna, and Commissioner of Police, Investment, at Force Headquarters.
The Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd), mni, congratulated the promoted officers and reiterated the PSC’s commitment to transparency, meritocracy, and best practices in all appointments and promotions. He encouraged the officers to view their new ranks as a call to higher responsibility and greater service to national security.
The Chairman also commended the PSC Standing Committee on NPF Matters, led by DIG (Dr.) Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), and other Board Members for their dedication throughout the examination and interview process.
The PSC continues to focus on human resource management within the Nigeria Police Force, aiming to foster a professional, efficient, and service-driven institution.
