Ikeja Electric has dismissed as false and malicious a publication circulating on social media platforms, including WhatsApp, which alleges impropriety against the company and attempts to defame its Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Folake Soetan, and its Board Chairman, Dr. Kola Adesina.
The electricity distribution company, in a statement issued in Lagos on Tuesday, said the publication was deliberately crafted to misinform the public and drag the organisation and its leadership into disrepute through what it described as fabricated and misleading claims.
According to Ikeja Electric, preliminary investigations have shown that the group behind the publication, identified as the Nigerian Global Business Forum, has no registered legal or corporate existence either within or outside Nigeria. The company also stated that the named signatories to the publication, Dr. Alaba Kalejaiye and Musa Ahmed, have no verifiable professional credentials or established public profiles.
The company further said the publication contained false representations of its operations, safety record and financial practices, stressing that these claims did not reflect the reality of its business or governance structure. It disclosed that its legal advisers have been instructed to commence a detailed forensic investigation and to pursue defamation proceedings against the authors, publishers and any individuals or entities found to be responsible for sponsoring or spreading the publication.
While reaffirming that it operates under a strict framework of accountability, transparency and service improvement, Ikeja Electric said it would not tolerate coordinated disinformation campaigns aimed at eroding public trust or damaging its corporate integrity. It urged members of the public to completely disregard the publication, describing it as baseless and misleading.
