The City Boy Movement in the Southeast has dismissed as false viral social media claims that its regional coordinator, Chief Dr. Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, has resigned from the group.
The movement described the reports as misleading and urged members of the public to disregard them.
According to a press statement signed by Uche Nworah, PhD, Director of Media and Publicity, City Boy Movement Southeast, Chief Iyiegbu remains actively involved in the affairs of the movement and has not stepped down from his position.
The statement noted that Iyiegbu has continued to engage in consultations with stakeholders across the Southeast alongside other members, while promoting the achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, which it described as the core mandate of the movement.
The group also debunked another circulating claim alleging that Iyiegbu had stated that Mr. Peter Obi would not receive votes in the Southeast in the 2027 presidential election. It said the claim was entirely untrue and aimed at creating friction between Iyiegbu and Obi, whom it described as someone he regards as an elder brother.
The movement maintained that citizens in a democratic society are free to associate with political parties or movements of their choice without intimidation or vilification.
It called on the public to rely on verified information and ignore what it termed the handiwork of purveyors of fake news.
