President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, will on Saturday witness the burial of his late brother-in-law, Elder Essien Pius Ubeng, in Ukana Ikot Ntuen, Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
Akpabio described the death of the respected community figure as a rude shock and a deeply personal loss, noting that their relationship went beyond family ties.
In a condolence message personally signed by him, the Senate President said he received the news of Elder Ubeng’s passing with profound grief, recalling the strong bond they shared over the years. He said the deceased was not only an in-law but someone with whom he shared a close personal affinity, making the loss particularly painful.
Akpabio paid glowing tribute to the late Ubeng, describing him as a dutiful family man, respected community leader, and devoted Christian whose commitment to faith earned him the role of a Lay Preacher in the Methodist Church. He noted that Ubeng’s conduct both in private and public life reflected strong moral values and service to humanity.
He also highlighted the deceased’s record in public service, stating that as a commissioner in the civil service, Ubeng carried out his duties with remarkable efficiency and dedication. According to him, the passing of the elder statesman has created a significant void within the family and the wider public space.
Akpabio urged family members and associates to take solace in the legacy left behind by the deceased, noting that his life of service, faith, and integrity would remain a source of pride and inspiration.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of Elder Ubeng’s soul and asked God to grant the family the strength and fortitude to bear the loss.
