The Senate President, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, has paid glowing tribute to the late Senator Barinada Mpigi, describing his years in the National Assembly as marked by honour, dignity, and unwavering devotion to public duty.
Akpabio delivered the tribute during a funeral service held in honour of the late lawmaker at the Anglican Church in Koroma Tai, Rivers State, where political leaders, family members, and constituents gathered to celebrate his life and service.
He said the late senator distinguished himself through steady participation in legislative duties, thoughtful contributions in debates, and a consistent focus on the welfare of his constituents. He noted that Mpigi approached governance with a strong sense of responsibility, always mindful of the expectations and wellbeing of the people he represented.
The Senate President further observed that the late lawmaker remained committed to his constituents throughout his time in office, combining loyalty to his people with personal conviction and a belief in national progress. He added that Mpigi’s service reflected discipline, commitment, and a deep sense of public trust.
Until his passing, Senator Mpigi represented Rivers South East Senatorial District in the 10th Senate, where he chaired the Senate Committee on Works and was widely regarded as an influential and outspoken legislator.
His death brings to a close the service of a lawmaker who, colleagues say, was firmly rooted in the concerns of his senatorial district and active in the key legislative conversations of his time.
