At a deeply symbolic gathering of families, friends and Nigeria’s political elite, the wedding of Chukwunyelugo Ngige and Chetanna Agubata unfolded in Abuja with a quiet dignity that reflected the weight of both lineages. The Wedding Mass took place at noon on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the Catholic Church of the Assumption, Asokoro, Abuja-FCT. From the early hours, the church precincts recorded steady arrivals as guests eased into the sacred space marked by calm greetings and orderly movement into the sanctuary.
Inside the church, the pews filled gradually until every section was occupied. The atmosphere settled into solemn stillness as the congregation prepared for the liturgy.
In a defining moment that drew quiet attention, Dr Nnamdi Nchekwube Agubata, father of the bride, and Professor Stella Nonyelum Agubata first offered heartfelt words of blessing, expressing gratitude and joy at the union of their daughter, Chetanna, into the Ngige family. On the opposite side, Chief Dr Chris Nwabueze Ngige and Dr (Mrs) Evelyn Nkadi Ngige followed with equally warm reflections, acknowledging the coming together of both families and the responsibility that accompanies the bond being formed. Their words set a deeply emotional tone within the church.
The bridegroom Chukwunyelugo and bride Chetanna, seated with calm composure, were later called into the centre of the liturgy where they affirmed their vows. The exchange was steady, deliberate, and carried a solemn clarity that held the congregation in focused silence before the eventual declaration of union.
Dr Chukwunyelugo Ngige arrived in composed dignity, walking with steady ease into the church. He was accompanied by Chetanna Agubata, fondly called Cheta, as both families marked the union of their children in a moment that brought together two respected homes. Chukwunyelugo, son of Chief Dr Chris Nwabueze Ngige, OON and Dr (Mrs) Evelyn Nkadi Ngige, stood alongside Chetanna, daughter of Dr Nnamdi Nchekwube Agubata and Professor Stella Nonyelum Agubata. Family members and close associates were seated on both sides of the aisle in quiet acknowledgment of the occasion.
The Wedding Mass proceeded with hymns that rose steadily through the church, followed by scripture readings and prayers that anchored the solemnity of the ceremony. At the conclusion of the rite, a brief silence gave way to soft applause as the couple was pronounced joined in matrimony.
Following the Mass, guests moved in measured flow for congratulations and photographs before proceeding to the wedding reception held at Los Angeles Event Centre, Abuja-FCT. The transition from sacred rite to celebration was orderly, with guests gradually settling into an atmosphere of festivity.
The reception was chaired by High Chief Senator Mike Ajaegbo (Ede of Obosi), who in his remarks counselled the couple to embrace patience, tolerance and effective communication, noting that marriage is a journey that requires understanding, adjustment and shared commitment through changing seasons of life. His words drew reflective silence before warm applause followed.
Senator Ita Enang led the opening prayer, after which the celebration fully came alive.
The atmosphere shifted into a rich blend of culture and entertainment as skilled dancers delivered scintillating performances, supported by a live band and a DJ who seamlessly alternated between traditional rhythms and contemporary sounds. The hall moved in waves of rhythm, colour and celebration.
Chukwunyelugo and Chetanna later took to the dance floor, moving gently to soft music while holding each other closely to the admiration of guests. Chukwunyelugo’s gaze rested on Chetanna as they swayed in unison, drawing sustained applause from those watching. Their movements were unhurried and deeply personal, reflecting quiet joy and shared emotion.
Both families joined them at intervals, with parents of the bride and bridegroom taking turns on the dance floor with their children in symbolic celebration. Guests captured the moments from their tables, with cameras and phones lifted in steady admiration as laughter and applause filled the space.
The reception carried a vibrant but composed rhythm, sustained by music, laughter and continuous engagement among guests.
Among the distinguished guests were the Secretary to the Government of the Federation: Chief Senator George Akume who was represented by his Special Assistant, Alistair Oduah, His Excellency Mr Peter Obi, former Minister of Transportation Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, Chief Bisi Akande, Distinguished Senator Osita Izunaso Chairman of the Wedding Planning Committee, Dr ABC Orjiakor, Senator Victor Umeh, Hon Uche Harris Annie-Okonkwo, Lady (Mrs) Eileen Uwajumogu, wife of the late Senator Ben Uwajumogu and Lady (Mrs) Grace Ezeife (Ugoeze), wife of the late Dr Chukwuemeka Ezeife (Okwadike). Also present were former Governors Dr Muazu Babangida Aliyu, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha and HE Chief Achike Udenwa, Hon. Akobundu, Ozonkpu Uche Nworah, Gabriel Tsenyen Esq, Nnaemeka Nwachukwu, Madam Gloria Glodaja, Senator Alkali Jajere, and Dr. Col. Surgeon Azodo, who attended with his wife, Dr. Ngozi Azodo.
Also present were the Head of Civil Service, Watson Jack; Chief Pat Chidolue (Nnabuenyi), Chairman of Chelsea Hotel Group; Ezugo and Kanayo Nwandu, Chairman of Master Holdings; Okemili Odunukwe of Colonades Lagos; and oil magnate Lady Uju Ifejika of Brittania-U, alongside the Chairman of Bolton White amongst many others.
The wedding mass was officiated by the Archbishop of the Onitsha Metropolitan Province, assisted by Bishop Uzoukwu of the Minna Diocese.
As evening of the wedding reception settled, guests departed in clusters while others lingered in conversation and photographs, bringing the celebration to a gradual close for another round of party.
The following day, a Post-Wedding Thanksgiving Mass was held at the Catholic Church of the Assumption, Asokoro, Abuja-FCT, followed by a thanksgiving reception at the Asokoro residence of Chief Chris Nwabueze Ngige, where family members and close associates gathered in an intimate setting for another round of entertainments.
The traditional marriage of Chukwunyelugo and Chetanna had earlier taken place on December 28, 2025 at Enugwu-Ukwu in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, an event that also drew strong family and societal presence and was marked by a rich display of culture and elegance.
