Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has held a high-level consultation with former President Goodluck Jonathan, alongside prominent South East leaders, as part of ongoing engagements ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Obi said the meeting formed part of his continued consultations with key national figures, noting that discussions with the former President were centred on the future of Nigeria and the urgent need to reposition the country.
He described the deliberations as frank and reflective, with a shared focus on restoring unity, strengthening security, stabilising the economy, and promoting inclusive governance across the country.
According to him, the current state of the nation, marked by economic strain, rising insecurity, and widening social divisions, demands collective responsibility from leaders across regions to engage, consult, and act in the interest of the Nigerian people.
Obi stressed that Nigeria requires a new leadership approach anchored on competence, character, capacity, and compassion, rather than personal ambition. He added that governance must shift from the distribution of limited resources to the creation of sustainable opportunities, driven by productivity and effective utilisation of the nation’s human and natural endowments.
He further stated that the 2027 general elections should be seen as a defining moment for national renewal, rather than a routine political cycle, emphasising the need to prioritise the welfare of citizens, including access to quality education, support for small businesses, and improved national security.
Obi expressed confidence that with sincere dialogue, unity of purpose, and a commitment to national interest, Nigeria can overcome its current challenges and move towards a more stable and prosperous future.
