Nigeria’s diplomatic community recorded a significant gathering on May 5, 2026, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to witness the launch of Fragments of Time: My Foreign Service Years, a memoir by Ambassador Eineje Onobu that chronicles decades of service and insight into the nation’s international engagements.
The event, held at the Ministry’s Rotunda, drew senior officials, diplomats, and dignitaries who came to honour the author’s enduring contributions to Nigeria’s foreign policy landscape.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Ambassador Dunoma Umar Ahmed, described the memoir as a powerful account of dedication, professionalism, and national service. He noted that the book captures key moments from Ambassador Onobu’s career, offering readers a window into the demands and realities of diplomacy.
Ahmed emphasized that the publication goes beyond personal storytelling, presenting valuable perspectives on the changing dynamics of global relations and Nigeria’s place within them. He added that the memoir stands as both a historical resource and a source of inspiration for younger officers in the Foreign Service.
He also highlighted the broader significance of the work, stating that it enriches national discourse and provides useful insights for policymakers, scholars, and the public.
Addressing current global developments, the Permanent Secretary pointed out that the book arrives at a time of significant international shifts and uncertainties. He stressed the continued importance of diplomacy in protecting national interests and navigating complex global challenges.
He commended Ambassador Onobu for documenting his experiences and expressed confidence that the memoir would serve as a lasting reference for future generations.
