Former civil servant and Bauchi State governorship aspirant, Yakubu Yakubu Abdullahi, popularly known as YY Abdullahi, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election, expressing confidence in his capacity to lead the state and contribute meaningfully to its development.
Abdullahi made his position known shortly after submitting his nomination forms, where he said his decision to enter the race was driven by a desire to repay Bauchi State for the opportunities and support he has enjoyed over the years in public service.
He stated that his years of administrative and public sector experience have equipped him with the knowledge and understanding required to provide purposeful leadership for the state.
According to him, Bauchi State played a major role in shaping his personal and professional journey, adding that he now feels compelled to offer his experience and service toward advancing the state’s growth and development.
The governorship aspirant also dismissed concerns over the calibre of politicians contesting alongside him for the party’s ticket, insisting that healthy political competition should not create hostility among aspirants.
He specifically spoke about his relationship with former Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, describing him as a longtime associate with whom he still maintains cordial ties despite political ambitions.
Abdullahi said politics should be pursued with maturity and a collective sense of responsibility toward the development of Bauchi State rather than personal conflicts and division.
Speaking on the mode of primary election to be adopted by the party, he expressed readiness to participate in whichever process the leadership considers appropriate, including direct primaries, indirect primaries or consensus arrangement.
He said what matters most is the preservation of peace, fairness and unity within the party ahead of the election season.
The aspirant further expressed confidence in the ability of party leaders and stakeholders to manage the selection process in a manner that would promote harmony among all contenders and prevent internal crisis after the primaries.
Abdullahi also explained the origin of his popular nickname “YY,” saying the initials were derived from his full name, Yakubu Yakubu Abdullahi, noting that he inherited the second Yakubu from his father.
