Nigeria’s military, working alongside the United States Africa Command, has killed Abu-Bilal Al-Minuki, the reported second-in-command of ISIS, during a coordinated operation in the Lake Chad region.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, the mission was executed after extensive intelligence gathering and strategic planning by both forces.
Security officials linked Al-Minuki to several recent attacks on military bases across Nigeria’s North-East, making him one of the region’s most wanted extremist figures.
The Federal Government praised the operation as a major breakthrough in ongoing counterterrorism efforts, while also commending the partnership between Nigeria and the United States in tackling insurgency and restoring stability in the region.
