The Federal Government has again assured families of military personnel who died in active service that they will not be forgotten, as the Honourable Minister of Defence, Christopher Gwabin Musa, on Tuesday received Mr. Hassan Braimah, younger brother of the late Brigadier General Oseni Omoh Braimah, at the Ministry of Defence in Abuja.
The late Brigadier General Braimah, who until his death commanded the 29 Task Force Brigade, was killed on April 9, 2026, during military operations in Benisheikh, a troubled area within the North-East counter-insurgency theatre. His death was widely mourned within military circles, where he was regarded as a courageous and experienced Infantry officer who spent years on frontline operations against insurgents.
He was buried with full military honours at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri on April 15 alongside seven other personnel who also lost their lives in service to the nation.
During the meeting at the Ministry, Hassan Braimah reportedly shared emotional memories of his late brother, describing him as a disciplined officer whose commitment to duty remained unwavering until his final moments. He told the Minister that although the family was still grieving the painful loss, they remained proud of the late General’s service and sacrifice to the country.
He also assured the Ministry that the family would continue to stand by the dependants and loved ones left behind by the deceased senior officer.
Responding, General Musa expressed sympathy to the Braimah family on behalf of the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Nigeria, noting that the nation recognises the enormous sacrifices made daily by military personnel fighting to preserve national security and territorial integrity.
The Minister said the Ministry maintains an open-door policy for families of fallen servicemen and women, stressing that support for them would remain a priority.
According to a press statement signed by the Ministry of Defence, General Musa stated that the Armed Forces would never abandon the families of personnel who paid the supreme price in defence of the nation.
“The Armed Forces will never abandon the families of those who lay down their lives for this country. We remain committed to providing assistance, care, and direct access to the Ministry whenever needed,” the Minister stated.
