The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has warned members of the public against a fake Facebook page operating under the name “Customs Authority,” describing it as a fraudulent platform created to impersonate the Service and deceive unsuspecting individuals.
In a public alert issued by the NCS, the Service said the page is not affiliated with it in any way and should not be regarded as an official source of information.
The Service cautioned Nigerians against engaging with the operators of the page, noting that any information, offers, requests, or communications emanating from the platform should be disregarded.
According to the NCS, the fraudulent page was created with the intention of misleading members of the public and potentially defrauding unsuspecting victims through false representations and unauthorized use of the Customs identity.
The Service urged citizens to exercise caution when seeking information relating to Customs activities and to rely only on its verified communication channels for official updates, announcements, and public information.
It listed its authentic social media platforms as Facebook under the name Nigeria Customs Service, as well as its verified X, Instagram, Threads, and TikTok accounts, all operating with the handle @customsng.
The NCS also encouraged members of the public to report suspicious social media pages, online accounts, or digital activities falsely claiming to represent the Service.
The advisory comes amid growing cases of online impersonation by fraudsters who create fake accounts in the names of government agencies and public institutions to lure unsuspecting members of the public. The NCS said vigilance and verification remain essential before responding to any message or offer presented as coming from the Service.
