The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has appointed Princess Oforitsenere Emiko as Interim Chairman of the governing board of the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI), in a move aimed at strengthening the institute’s role in Nigeria’s digital economy drive.
The Commission also named Engr. Abraham Oshadami, Executive Commissioner for Technical Services, and Ms. Rimini Makama, Executive Commissioner for Stakeholder Management, as interim board members to support the new leadership structure.
According to a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs at the NCC, Nnenna Ukoha, the reconstitution of the board is designed to reposition the Digital Bridge Institute for enhanced performance in the country’s evolving communications and technology sector.
The institute, established by the NCC, was originally set up as a specialised centre for training in telecommunications and information technology, but has since expanded its mandate in response to the rapid growth of the digital economy.
The Commission noted that the new direction will focus on key areas including education and training, research and development, innovation, economic growth, and emerging policy and regulation.
It further stated that the initiative aligns with broader efforts to equip Nigeria’s youthful population with advanced digital skills needed to bridge existing capacity gaps in the technology sector.
The interim board is expected to work with the President/Chief Executive Officer of DBI, Mr. David Daser, alongside existing board members, to drive ongoing reforms and strengthen the institute’s institutional capacity.
