By George Ozalla

Anambra Central indigenes and business leaders resident in Guangzhou, China, have thrown their weight behind former federal lawmaker, Hon. Ferdinand Dozie Nwankwo, popularly known as Onye Ndozi, for the Anambra Central Senatorial election, describing him as the candidate best suited to represent the district in the National Assembly.
The endorsement was announced at a meeting of Anambra Central entrepreneurs, investors and professionals based in China. The gathering brought together members of the diaspora business community to discuss ways of strengthening cooperation among Anambra indigenes abroad and supporting initiatives that can benefit communities across the senatorial district.
Speaking during the meeting, Nwankwo underscored the need for closer engagement between Ndi Anambra Central in the diaspora and those at home. He noted that Anambra citizens have continued to distinguish themselves in business and commerce across different parts of the world and should be encouraged to play a greater role in the economic development of their communities.
He said there was a need to create stronger channels through which investors and entrepreneurs abroad could connect with opportunities back home, adding that proper representation at the federal level should translate into tangible benefits for the people.
Nwankwo further stated that his experience in public office and long-standing relationships within government and the business community would place him in a position to champion policies capable of making business activities easier for Anambra citizens both within and outside the country.
Members of the group said his contributions during the engagement reflected a clear understanding of the realities faced by Nigerians in the diaspora and the expectations of business owners seeking a stronger connection with home.
After deliberating on the various aspirants seeking the Senate seat, the gathering endorsed Onye Ndozi, maintaining that he possesses the experience, exposure and capacity required for effective representation.
They said his understanding of governance, business and community development sets him apart, adding that Anambra Central requires a representative who can effectively connect the interests of the people with opportunities available at the national and international levels.
The business leaders also expressed confidence in his ability to promote policies that will encourage investment, support enterprise and create a more favourable environment for economic growth across the district.
The endorsement is expected to further strengthen Nwankwo’s growing support base as consultations and political activities ahead of the senatorial election continue to gather pace.
Hon. Ferdinand Dozie Nwankwo, widely known as Onye Ndozi, represented Anaocha, Dunukofia and Njikoka Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. During his time in the National Assembly, he attracted a number of constituency projects and maintained a strong presence in grassroots development efforts.
