According to a statement by FDN Media, the award was presented in recognition of Nwankwo’s outstanding contributions to legislative excellence, democratic governance and people centred representation during his service in the 8th and 9th National Assembly.
The statement noted that during his time in the National Assembly, Nwankwo championed initiatives and supported interventions in healthcare, education, infrastructure and community development, earning a reputation for effective representation and commitment to the needs of his constituents.
It added that the National Legislative Awards celebrates legislators and public officials whose contributions have strengthened democratic governance, promoted legislative excellence and advanced public service in Nigeria.
The ceremony attracted serving and former lawmakers as well as other prominent public office holders from across the country.
Among those honoured were Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, Speaker Anambra State House of Assembly, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Abdul Ahmed Ningi, Ireti Heebah Kingibe, Ahmed Aliyu Wadada and Babajimi Adegoke Benson, alongside several other lawmakers and public servants recognized for their contributions to legislative development and democratic governance.
The award is the latest national recognition for Nwankwo’s legislative career, which spanned the 8th and 9th National Assembly and was marked by constituency projects, sponsorship of bills and motions, and sustained engagement with issues affecting his constituents. The organisers said the honour reflects his contributions to lawmaking and public service over the years.
