The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has congratulated Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, on her election as the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), describing her emergence as a historic milestone for the legal profession and another demonstration of the growing capacity of women to provide purposeful leadership in Nigeria.
The Association said Badejo-Okusanya’s election reflects her competence, integrity, resilience and unwavering commitment to the advancement of the legal profession, expressing confidence that her leadership would strengthen the NBA, promote the rule of law and deepen constitutional democracy.
According to a press statement signed by the National Chairperson of NAWOJ, Hajia Aisha Ibrahim, the election of the Senior Advocate of Nigeria represents a significant moment in the nation’s democratic journey and offers renewed hope for women aspiring to leadership positions.
Ibrahim described the outcome of the NBA election as a defining moment not only for the legal profession but also for Nigerian women, noting that it reaffirms that competence, integrity and visionary leadership remain the hallmarks of genuine service.
“The election of Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, as the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association is a defining moment not only for the legal profession but also for Nigerian women. It reaffirms that competence, integrity and visionary leadership remain the hallmarks of true service.
“Her emergence sends a powerful message that women are increasingly breaking barriers and making meaningful contributions to nation-building. We are confident that her wealth of experience, sound judgment and commitment to justice will strengthen the Nigerian Bar Association and further promote the rule of law, constitutional democracy and the protection of fundamental human rights,” she stated.
The NAWOJ National Chairperson further said the election of Badejo-Okusanya would serve as an inspiration to women and girls across the country, encouraging them to pursue leadership positions through excellence, diligence and dedication to service.
She stressed that the achievement demonstrates that professionalism, hard work and commitment to duty continue to open doors for women in sectors that play critical roles in shaping national development.
Ibrahim reaffirmed the Association’s readiness to work closely with the Nigerian Bar Association in promoting access to justice, defending press freedom, advancing gender equality and supporting initiatives that would contribute to sustainable national development.
She also conveyed the congratulations of the entire membership of the Association to the newly elected NBA President and the other national officers elected alongside her.

NAWOJ expressed optimism that the new leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association would usher in reforms capable of strengthening the rule of law, safeguarding the independence of the legal profession and restoring greater public confidence in the administration of justice.
The Association further stated that it looks forward to a stronger partnership with the NBA in advancing human rights, protecting media freedom, promoting access to justice and championing the rights and welfare of women, children and other vulnerable members of society.
