The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has constituted a seven-member National Reconciliation Committee headed by Pat Utomi as part of efforts to resolve disputes arising from its recent party primaries and strengthen internal unity ahead of forthcoming elections.
The committee is expected to engage with aggrieved aspirants and stakeholders across the country to address outstanding grievances generated during the primary elections and foster reconciliation within the party.
This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday and jointly signed by the NDC National Chairman, Cleopas Moses, and the party’s National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu.
To support the reconciliation process, the party appointed veteran politician Buba Galadima as Co-Chairman of the committee, while Mohammed Sanni Takori will serve as Vice Chairman. Babatunde Alli was named Secretary of the committee, with Mrs. Dudu Mamman Manuga, Hon. Salvador Adegoke Moshood and Alhaji Haruna Pai serving as members.
The NDC also established three zonal reconciliation sub-committees to coordinate engagements in the North, South-South and South-East geopolitical zones as part of efforts to ensure wider consultations and a seamless reconciliation process across the country.
According to the statement, the National Reconciliation Committee will be inaugurated at the party’s national secretariat at noon on Thursday, August 6, with the full list of members of both the national committee and the zonal sub-committees expected to be unveiled during the ceremony. The party expressed optimism that the reconciliation initiative would strengthen internal cohesion and better position the NDC for future electoral contests.
