Former Deputy President of the 9th Senate and Delta Central senatorial candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has raised the alarm over what he described as disturbing and increasingly credible threats to his life and those of his family members.
Omo-Agege, in a statement issued from his office, alleged that the threats were emanating from the Delta State Government House in Asaba.
The former senator raised the alarm as he commenced his campaign activities on Thursday, with stops scheduled in Uvwie Local Government Area and other local government areas within Delta Central Senatorial District.
He called on the Nigerian public, international community, civil society organisations, the media and security agencies to take formal notice of his concerns and monitor developments surrounding his campaign activities.
Omo-Agege specifically warned that any harm that may come to him or members of his family should be attributed to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, whom he accused of being responsible for the alleged threats.
“Should anything untoward happen to me or members of my family, the Nigerian people and more particularly the Urhobo people of Delta Central senatorial district should hold the Governor of Delta State, Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, responsible and accountable,” he said.
The former Deputy President of the Senate said his decision to make the allegation public was aimed at drawing the attention of relevant authorities and stakeholders to what he considered a serious security concern as his campaign gets underway.
Omo-Agege, who is seeking to represent Delta Central in the Senate, urged security agencies to take note of his allegations and ensure adequate protection for him and his family members as the campaign progresses.
