Afreximbank Posts Strong Half-Year 2026 Performance As Growth, Profitability Rise

By George Ozalla

The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) and its subsidiaries have reported a strong financial performance for the first six months of 2026, recording robust growth and profitability despite the challenging economic environment.

The bank, in a press release issued on Monday, said the financial results for the six months ended June 30, 2026, demonstrated the resilience of its business model and its continued capacity to support trade and economic development across Africa and the Caribbean.

Afreximbank said the performance reflected sustained strength in its core operations, with the Group maintaining growth and profitability while continuing to deploy its financial resources in support of its mandate of promoting and financing African trade.

The institution has in recent years expanded its role in facilitating trade and investment across the continent, providing financing and other financial solutions to governments, businesses and institutions involved in trade and economic activities.

According to the bank, its half-year performance provides further evidence of the strength and resilience of the Group as it continues to operate in an increasingly complex global and economic environment.

The results also come at a time when African economies are seeking stronger financial support to expand intra-African trade, increase productive capacity, strengthen regional economic integration and reduce some of the financing constraints affecting businesses and governments.

Afreximbank’s interventions have increasingly focused on supporting the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), while also providing financing that enables businesses to participate more effectively in regional and international trade.

The bank said its continued strong performance would enable it to sustain its contribution to trade and economic development activities across its areas of operation.

The Group’s activities extend beyond traditional trade financing, with Afreximbank supporting projects and initiatives aimed at strengthening Africa’s economic integration, improving access to finance and creating an environment in which businesses can expand their participation in domestic, regional and international markets.

The bank also continues to work with stakeholders in the Caribbean, strengthening economic and trade links between Africa and the region and promoting greater cooperation in areas of mutual economic interest.

Afreximbank said the half-year results underscored the resilience of its business model, particularly its ability to combine financial performance with its broader development mandate.

The institution added that it remained committed to supporting its member countries and other stakeholders through financing and initiatives designed to promote sustainable trade and economic development.

The strong performance in the first half of 2026 therefore places the bank in a position to build on the momentum recorded during the period as it continues to pursue its strategic objectives for the year.

Afreximbank announced the results on Monday, August 24, 2026, in Cairo, Egypt.
