The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), OFR, has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening its role in international peacekeeping and security efforts, saying the Federal Government is determined to restore and expand the country’s active footprint in global peace and security operations.
General Musa stated this on Tuesday in New York, United States, after attending the opening session of the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) at the United Nations Headquarters.
The Minister attended the opening session alongside Vice President Kashim Shettima, GCON, who led the Nigerian delegation to the global conference.
According to a statement issued by Leah Katung-Babatunde, Special Adviser (Media) to the Minister of Defence, General Musa, following the opening session, paid an operational visit to the Defence Section at the Permanent Mission of Nigeria to the United Nations.
During the visit, the Minister received a comprehensive briefing on the strategic activities and operational commitments of the Defence Section from Nigeria’s Defence Attaché, Brigadier General EA Koleosho.
General Musa commended Brigadier General Koleosho and his team for their exemplary professionalism, steadfast loyalty and commitment to upholding the highest ideals of the United Nations and the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
He also reiterated the resolve of the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to restore and expand Nigeria’s active footprint in international peace and security efforts.
The Minister stressed that the administration remains committed to reinvigorating Nigeria’s participation in peacekeeping operations across the globe to promote stability and security.
