Cycling Africa, in partnership with the Kano State Government, has announced the second edition of Cycling Kano for Saturday, December 12, 2026, with a campaign promoting access to clean water, water conservation and climate change awareness.
The event, themed “Water is Life,” aims to build on the success of the maiden edition held in 2025 while promoting competitive cycling, youth development, healthy living and environmental sustainability.
President and Chief Executive Officer of Cycling Africa, Bamidele Adeleye, said the support of Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, had been instrumental in developing the event as a platform for youth engagement, economic opportunities and sports development.
Adeleye said the 2026 edition would feature expanded competitive categories, improved route safety and opportunities to discover and nurture grassroots cycling talents.
He explained that the event would go beyond competition by raising awareness about the need for clean water, responsible water use and the effects of climate change on communities.
“Water is Life” is the central message of this year’s edition, with organisers planning awareness activities along the race route and partnerships with environmental and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) organisations.
The race will begin at the historic Emir’s Palace in Kano, pass through major routes across the city and conclude with activities celebrating the state’s rich cultural heritage.
Adeleye said an online portal would be unveiled in November to enable interested cyclists to register for the event.
The maiden edition, held in December 2025, attracted cyclists from different parts of Nigeria and featured competitions for professional and junior riders. Isa Momoh won the men’s professional race, while Mubarak Auwal and Islam Yau Abubakar emerged winners in the Under-15 boys’ and girls’ categories respectively.
The organisers expect the second edition to attract cyclists, cycling clubs, sports enthusiasts, families and other participants from Kano and beyond.

Cycling Kano seeks to strengthen the culture of cycling in Northern Nigeria while promoting its benefits for fitness, tourism and environmentally friendly mobility.
