The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arraigned two children of the late Lucky (Godwin) Adimike alongside another suspect before the FCT High Court 13 over the alleged murder of the businessman at his residence in the Guzape District of Abuja.
The defendants, Adimike Odirachukwu Anthony, Adimike Chinyere Stephany and Comfort Ajibade, were arraigned on a four count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy to commit culpable homicide, culpable homicide and offences under the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act.
According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh, on Monday, the tragic incident occurred on May 15, 2026, after the Guzape Divisional Headquarters received a distress call from a relative of the deceased, who reported that repeated efforts to reach Lucky Adimike had proved unsuccessful.
The statement explained that acting on the distress call, police detectives swiftly mobilised to the residence of the deceased, where they discovered him lying unconscious in his room with multiple stab wounds. He was immediately evacuated to Karu General Hospital for emergency medical attention, but was confirmed dead by doctors on duty.
The Command stated that the gruesome nature of the incident prompted the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD, FCAI, to order a discreet, comprehensive and intelligence driven investigation aimed at unravelling the circumstances surrounding the killing and identifying all those connected with the crime.
The investigation, it said, initially led to the arrest of five suspects comprising Adimike Odirachukwu Anthony, Adimike Chinyere Stephany, Comfort Ajibade, the deceased’s driver and his gateman.
According to the police, investigators painstakingly examined the evidence gathered during the course of the investigation before concluding the case file. Upon the conclusion of investigations, only Adimike Odirachukwu Anthony, Adimike Chinyere Stephany and Comfort Ajibade were charged before the court, while the deceased’s driver and gateman were not included among those arraigned.
The three defendants were subsequently brought before the FCT High Court 13, where the prosecution filed a four count charge against them.
The police said all three defendants were jointly charged with criminal conspiracy to commit culpable homicide and culpable homicide in connection with the death of Lucky Adimike.
The prosecution also filed additional charges under the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act. Specifically, Adimike Odirachukwu Anthony was separately charged with allegedly entering into a same sex civil union, while Adimike Chinyere Stephany and Comfort Ajibade were jointly charged with allegedly entering into a same sex civil union contrary to the provisions of the Act.
Following their arraignment, the trial court ordered that the three defendants be remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre pending the hearing and determination of the case.
The court thereafter adjourned the matter until September 30, 2026, for the commencement of further proceedings.
The FCT Police Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all criminal allegations are thoroughly investigated and diligently prosecuted in accordance with the law. It assured residents of the Federal Capital Territory that it would continue to pursue justice for victims of crime while upholding the constitutional rights and fair trial guarantees of all persons throughout the judicial process.
