The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Grace Ike, has felicitated Muslim faithful in the Federal Capital Territory and across Nigeria on the occasion of this year’s Maulid celebration, urging them to use the occasion to reflect on the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and pray for peace, unity and prosperity in the country.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Ike described Maulid as a significant occasion that provides an opportunity to recall the exemplary life, character and teachings of the Prophet, particularly his commitment to peace, compassion, justice, humility, honesty and love for humanity.

She said these virtues remained relevant to the Nigerian society, especially at a time when the country needed greater unity, tolerance, mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence among its diverse communities.

According to her, the teachings of the Prophet offer enduring lessons on the need for people to respect one another, accommodate differences and pursue peaceful means of resolving disagreements.

“At a time when our nation needs greater unity, tolerance and mutual understanding, the teachings of the Prophet provide enduring lessons on peaceful coexistence and respect for one another,” the statement read.

Ike urged Muslim faithful to use the Maulid celebration to offer prayers for Nigeria and its people, particularly for peace, stability and prosperity, while also encouraging them to promote dialogue and tolerance in their communities.

She said the values associated with the life of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) should also guide journalists in the discharge of their professional responsibilities, stressing the importance of truth, justice, fairness and humanity in journalism.

The NUJ FCT Council Chairman called on media practitioners to remain committed to responsible journalism and professional excellence, noting that the media has an important role to play in promoting peaceful coexistence, strengthening democratic values and contributing to the development of society.

She said journalists must continue to uphold truth and justice in their work while ensuring that their reportage contributes positively to the nation’s peace and unity rather than deepening divisions.

Ike also reiterated the commitment of the NUJ FCT Council to promoting responsible journalism, professional standards and values capable of strengthening democracy and society.

She prayed that Almighty Allah would accept the prayers of the faithful and bless Nigeria with lasting peace, stability and prosperity.

Ike wished Muslim faithful in the FCT and across the country a happy and peaceful Maulid celebration.
