The Lagos State Police have uncovered disturbing details surrounding the alleged murder of a 45 year old man, Ayoola Bello, following the arraignment of three suspects before the Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court.
The defendants, identified as Sunday Sojunu, aged 35, Dare Sampson and Sojunu’s wife, Toyin, are facing multiple counts bordering on conspiracy, kidnapping and murder in connection with the killing of Bello in the Ikorodu area of the state.
According to the charges presented in court on Wednesday, the suspects allegedly lured Bello to their residence, where he was kidnapped and held against his will. Police prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police Kehinde Olatunde, told the court that investigations revealed the deceased had been involved in a relationship with Toyin, a TikTok content creator, whom he met through social media.
The prosecution explained that the relationship progressed to an in person meeting in September, after which Toyin reportedly confessed the affair to her husband. The confession, the police said, led to tensions within the household, culminating in a plan to bring Bello to Ikorodu under false pretences.
The police further informed the court that Sojunu allegedly engaged Sampson, described as a known cultist and hitman, to assist in carrying out the crime. Bello was said to have been held captive, with his family allegedly compelled to pay a ransom before he was eventually killed.
Investigators disclosed that the victim died after being forced to ingest a poisonous substance, after which efforts were made to dispose of his remains at a remote location around Adamo Junction.
The defendants were arrested on December 8 and have been charged under sections 165, 222 and 233 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015, with the offence of murder attracting the death penalty upon conviction.
The accused persons did not take their pleas during the proceedings. Magistrate O O Adeosun ordered that the two male defendants be remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre, while the female defendant was sent to the Kirikiri Correctional Facility.
The court also directed that the case file be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice and adjourned the matter until January 21, 2026.
The case adds to a growing number of domestic and relationship related homicide cases currently under investigation by law enforcement authorities in Lagos State.
